Supervising the Surreal: Strategies to Support Staff Facing Unbelievable Realities in Their Work (2 CEs)

This event offers 2 CEs for PA professionals holding LSW, LCSW, LPC, LMFT licenses. This event is also approved for 2 CEs for PA Licensed Psychologists.

When staff exchange stories of their work, lay people can be humbled, overwhelmed, and taken aback by what they hear. However, those who work with low resourced, but high acuity clients know that is “all in a day’s work”. Yet, the question remains, how do we make this sustainable and safe for those who have dedicated themselves to this work? This event explores what research and professional experience highlights what staff need to feel supported, empowered, and successful in their efforts to serve clients who survive against the odds every day. 

By the end of this training participants will be able to: 

1. Recite the vulnerabilities and realities face staff who work with high-acuity though lowly resourced clients.  

2. Relay the considerations that supervisors need to hold when they are working with staff about their own vulnerabilities or challenges when engaging with distressed clients.        

3. Identify at least 4 markers that staff are effectively supported and empowered to support clients who face daily and ever-changing challenges in a way that is sustainable to their own practice.
